An innovative new camper van from a company called Hymer is turning heads at Caravan Salon this week. The event—held in Düsseldorf, Germany—is one of the largest RV shows in the world, attracting more than 260,000 visitors annually. With a crowd that size, it can be hard for manufacturers to stand out, but Hymer’s latest model—the Venture S—brings some unique design elements and innovative technology that have generated plenty of attention and excitement.

The Venture S is the production model of a concept van that originally debuted at Caravan Salon back in 2019. Surprisingly, many of the features of that prototype made their way into the final version, which isn’t often the case with these kinds of vehicles. That includes a tech-inspired body that rides on an all-wheel drive Mercedes Sprinter platform.

Hymer pulled out all of the stops when it came to designing the Venture S. Case in point, the van’s expansive, yacht-inspired rear hatch, which opens to create an exterior deck perfect for lounging outdoors. Just inside is a two-person dinette with a table that stows away when not in use to create more space. The living area is illuminated by a pendant lamp and smart flood lights that are activated using a smartphone app.

The camper van’s sleeping area is on the roof, with a series of storage compartments doubling as a flight of stairs providing access. The bedroom features an inflatable mattress that is activated using the Hymer app, allowing owners to dial in the exact level of firmness desired automatically. The loft’s pneumatic walls help regulate the temperature in both hot and cold conditions and keep light and noise at bay too. A window with built-in blinds provides views of the outdoors when needed, while ambient lighting and charging ports add style and functionality to the space.

The van’s thoroughly-modern kitchen has a two-burner gas stove, single-basin sink, and a slide-out cutting board that creates additional counterspace. Hymer includes a gas grill for those who prefer to cook outside, and there is a generous amount of cupboard space for storing pots, pans, and other equipment. The van’s walls even have built-in grooves that make it easy to add accessories like a spice rack, knife set, or paper towel holder.

The Venture S comes with an expandable bathroom that folds out from the wall when in use. A large, floor-level shower comes standard, and a ceramic toilet, sink, mirror, and storage cabinets are optional add-ons. Bamboo wood and high-quality slate-like materials give the space a classic design along the lines of a high-end spa.

Other features include a Sonos sound system, large windows that provide lots of natural light, and solar panels that allow the Venture S to stay off-grid for up to ten days. The van has a small office space for remote workers and a tablet-like control panel for operating the HVAC, lights, and other technology. Outside it has 18” off-road tires, a rugged frame for tackling rough terrain, and LED lighting to illuminate the road.

Hymer says the Venture S is the perfect camping and traveling vehicle for two people. The company bills the camper van as the future of RVing and has started taking preorders, with deliveries set to begin in 2023. It carries a $225,000 price tag, but there is no word on whether or not it will be available in the US.
