Things to do.

If you’re outdoorsy, you’re in luck. Alaska has more sights, outdoor activities, and wildlife than just about anywhere else.

Whale watching.

From April until about September, whale enthusiasts would do well to make their way to Juneau to get a front-row show of both humpbacks and orcas. You’ll find plenty of guided boat tours and memorable moments in an experience that is sure to make a splash.

See the Aurora Borealis.

Truly one of the world’s most magical and illuminating wonders, the Northern Lights are visible over in Fairbanks from September until about April. You will undoubtedly find a photo worth framing.

Appreciate the wildlife.

It’s no secret Alaska has some of the most diverse wildlife in the world. With caribou, moose, bears, wolves, whales, and plenty more, several guided adventures will get you up close to witness these glacial creatures. Side note: there are even frogs with antifreeze in their veins. Seriously. That alone is worth checking out.

Go fishing for salmon.

If you’re into fishing, catching some salmon or halibut in the deepest recesses of the Northwest must be on your bucket list. How about cool summer weather with guided fishing and a monstrously sized dinner you can catch yourself?

Campgrounds to stay at.
