RVs for Hunting & Fishing
Five RVs for Sportsmen and Sportswomen Who Truly Enjoy Outdoor Adventure
Walk into any sporting goods outlet and it’s obvious the interest in outdoor activities is far-reaching in scope and immensely popular. From golf to tennis, soccer to baseball, fishing to hunting, we are an active people. Most of those outdoor activities take place close to home. However, when it comes to things such as ATV riding, fishing, or hunting, sportsmen and sportswomen tend to head for a destination that often requires camping off-grid for several days.
When I was a young sportsman, sleeping in a tent and eating meals cooked over an open campfire or on a two-burner camp stove were how my family spent weekends and summer vacations that centered around fishing and hunting. But as all of us got older, the comfort of a bed, an indoor bathroom, and a place to cook and eat out of the elements took priority over “roughing it.” Like many of today’s adventurers, we now prefer the comforts afforded by an RV over pitching a ground tent.
If you are a like-minded sportsman or -woman who loves to get away with the family or a couple of friends but do so with a nice level of comfort, the choices in RVs for 2022 are nearly as broad-reaching as there are types of hiking boots. Here’s just a tiny sampling of RVs we think are a nice fit.
Highland Ridge Range Lite Air 19MBH
Come in from a long day’s outing, hit the rear shower, rustle up a hearty dinner, and then sit back and relax with your buddies. The 2022 Range Lite Air 19MBH sleeps up to eight with a mix of kids and adults dispersed between the Murphy bed, double-over-double rear bunks, and the convertible dinette situated in the streetside slide.
The extended-stay-friendly trailer can carry 55 gallons of freshwater and hold 60 gallons of gray-/black-water split evenly between the two holding tanks. It also comes with 15 gallons of propane along with a full outdoor camp kitchen at the rear of the trailer’s curbside. Want supplemental solar power? That’s one of just a couple of options because everything else you need is already part of the Range Lite Air package. The 23-foot, 6-inch Range Lite Air has a GVWR of 5,500 pounds, which puts it at the upper end of the max tow rating of most properly equipped midsize pickups, but well within the towing ability of half-ton pickups and full-size SUVs.
Base MSRP: $42,930
KZ Sportsmen Classic 191BHK
KZ has been building travel trailers for decades with the most popular of its smaller 16–22-foot models being the Sportsmen Classic 191BHK, an ultralight weighing in with a GVWR of just 4,000 pounds. This makes it easily towable behind midsize pickups and some smaller SUVs/minivans. What we like about this travel trailer is the large rear corner bath, as well as the rear bunks that provide a nice open floorplan for a family of four. The front bed and amidships slide housing the dinette arrangement gives good walk-around space while leaving the little galley area less congested.
The pass-through storage compartment is plenty big enough to store and secure fishing and hunting gear, little coolers, and other bulky items you don’t want in the tow vehicle. New for the 2022 191BHK is a 14-foot awning and a curbside outside kitchen with a 12-volt fridge and a cool slide-out propane griddle. Also new for this year is a PVC roof (20-year warranty) over a 3⁄8-inch decking so you can walk on it if needed. The 191BHK is solar-ready, so a roof-mounted solar panel can easily plug in to keep the battery charged.

Ember RV Overland 171FB
Ember Recreational Vehicles began production late last year with its 2022 Overland Series trailers hitting dealers in January. The independent RV manufacturer is setting the RV world afire with cool innovations that are incorporated into the 20-foot, 6-inch, 5,440-pound-GVWR 171FB. Innovations begin with the boxed frame with a Curt trailing-arm independent coil suspension and electric Flat-Jack A-frame jack with a gear locker above, and top out with a Stargazer skylight, Winegard Air antenna, and 190-watt rooftop solar panel.
Ember also uses European dual-pane acrylic windows with integrated shades; composite roof, walls and floor; and aluminum framing in the construction of the residential-size queen bed, double-bed bunks, dinette, and elsewhere. The big rear bathroom has a radius shower, the amidships slide holds the jackknife sofa, and the galley opposite it is stacked with drawers under the seamless countertop. The skylight over the bed opens wide, and the retractable bug screen keeps insects at bay. Outside is a camp kitchen with fridge and griddle. The Overland 171FB is a great example of leading-edge RV technology packaged in an excellent trailer for a couple or family of four.

Forest River NB10.6 Toy Hauler
Hunters who like to bring an ATV with them on a multiday outing will find the No Boundaries 10.6 toy hauler from the Forest River RV camp pretty sweet. It has to be one of the smallest, lightest toy haulers on the market. It’d be a nice match to smaller SUVs such as Jeeps, 4Runners, and Broncos because it has a gross vehicle weight rating of just 3,736 pounds. It also has a class-leading 13 inches of ground clearance riding on Goodyear All-Terrain tires and nimble suspension. The 13-foot, 6-inch NB10.6 can carry gear and a full-size ATV in the 60-by-82-inch garage and provides sleeping accommodations in the spacious rooftop tent and inside the trailer when camp is set up.
The NB10.6 comes outfitted with a full galley, 12-volt refrigerator/freezer, and a 30-gallon freshwater tank for several days of dry camping. If the sun or rain pose an issue, the NB10.6 includes a 270-degree wraparound awning to keep the elements at bay. The Overlander Package sports a full Rhino Rack Roof Rack system that includes a kayak rack with the ability to transport all types of other outdoor gear right on the roof. This is one of those small RVs that begs you to load up and go have fun!
