Road Trip From LA to Yosemite

A photo essay of one of the most beautiful drives in the country

In its own right, California has perfected the art of the “scenic route.”

However, there’s one route we find a little more enchanting than most. It may or may not be the definitive drive of the West Coast. But you be the judge.

With a myriad of historic routes, including Highway 1 and the 395, venturing from SoCal to the foothills of Yosemite, we think you’ll agree that this is a path worth wandering.

Point Mugu Rock

Chances are you’ve seen Mugu Rock in a TV show or two, and with its stunning view of the ocean and proximity to Malibu, it certainly lives up to the hype off-screen.

Trona Pinnacles

A very distinct geological feature in the California Desert, the Trona Pinnacles boasts over 500 tufa spires and plenty of breathtaking views. Be advised that all-wheel or four-wheel drive is highly recommended if you want to get close.

Alabama Hills

Near the Eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada mountains, the Alabama Hills is a stunning formation of eroded hills and uniquely round rocks that are certainly worth a photo or two.

Mount Whitney

Snowcapped and cinematic, Mount Whitney is the tallest mountain in the Lower 48, as well as a fan-favorite path for climbers.

Bishop

By the way, if you’re looking for a place to hunker down in Bishop, Highlands RV Park is quiet, clean, and conveniently located – making it a great spot to camp.

Mammoth Lakes

A gorgeous little town outside of the Sierra Nevada, offering respite between skiing, hiking, and exploring, Mammoth Lakes is your hub for any sort of adventure.

June Lakes

June Lake feels like a beautiful painting come to life. Sitting just south of the Mono Basin, enshrouded by evergreens, mountains, and tranquility.

A little something for the road.
