Spending a Few Days in Silver Springs

A quick guide to a perfect Florida getaway.

Image Caption:

While Silver Springs, Florida isn’t on most people’s radar, it should be. This gem of Central Florida is a respite for nature lovers, history buffs, and anyone looking for a slower pace for a few days. To help you make the most of a pleasant long weekend we went ahead and curated a three-day itinerary of activities, food, and places to explore.

Day 1: Silver Springs State Park.

Morning.

  • Load up on a hearty breakfast from the Silver Springs Restaurant and then head to the park.
  • Take a Glass-Bottom Boat Tour and get an up-close look at the rich underwater topography and wildlife feeding into the Silver River. You’ll find plenty of fish, artifacts, and even movie props from when Hollywood used to film there.

Afternoon.

  • Box up some sandwiches beforehand from Publix and enjoy a picnic in the park.
  • If you’re feeling brave, rent a paddleboard or kayak to get a top-side look at the local wildlife (including monkeys, turtles, alligators, and manatees).

Evening.

  • You’ve probably worked up a decent appetite, so be sure to grab a slice or two from Silver Springs Pizza.
  • Turn in for some much-needed rest (and maybe even a dip in the heated pool) at Silver Springs RV Park.

Day 2: Explore the greater Silver Springs area.

Morning.

Afternoon.

Evening.

  • Enjoy a quiet night around the fire making s’mores. By the way – we have some great recipes just in case you were curious.

Day 3: Visit Ocala and pack up.

Morning.

  • Experience the charm of Ocala (just 15 minutes away), and spend your morning taking in the charm, art, and a few pastries from Magnolia.

Afternoon.

Pack up, grab a quick bite at Darrell’s Dog Gone Good Diner, and hit the road to head back home.
