The Beauer 3X Travel Trailer Triples in Size at the Campsite
French RV Manufacturer Brings Unique Towable Stateside for the First Time
When the Beauer 3X travel trailer hit the European camping scene a decade ago, it caused quite a stir. The lightweight towable made a big splash thanks to its telescoping design that allows it triple in size at the touch of a button. But sadly, the camper wasn’t available in North America, leaving would-be buyers to admire it from afar. That’s about to change, however, as Beauer is finally bringing the RV stateside where it has the potential to be quite a hit.
In its normal towing mode, the 3X measures 12 feet in length and is six feet wide. Those dimensions—and its 2,095-pound weight—make it easy to tow behind nearly any vehicle. But when the trailer arrives at the campsite, it transforms in size and shape. When activated, two electric cylinders expand outward to a width of 15 feet, creating an interior living space with 129 square feet of living area. The entire process is entirely automatic and takes about a minute to complete.
On the outside, the 3X somewhat resembles a classic travel trailer from the 1960s. But inside, it offers a thoroughly modern experience, with an open design and a clean aesthetic. Sleek appliances—including a two-burner stove, fridge, and sink—are found in the kitchen, along with wooden cabinets and countertops. LED lighting illuminates the entire space, while large windows allow plenty of natural light during the day.
One of the telecoping ends of the camper slides out to reveal a lounge area that doubles as a secondary sleeping space. The other end of the trailer also expands, creating the primary bedroom with a double bed. An adjoining bathroom comes with a toilet and has enough room to add an optional shower. Sliding doors separate the living quarters from the bedroom, providing a measure of privacy.
The 3X’s lights and appliances are powered by an onboard battery pack, which can be recharged via an optional solar panel. Other optional add-ons include an HVAC system, an electric or gas water heater, and a bike rack. Owners can also choose from a variety of colors for their furniture, cupboards, floors, and other items.
As mentioned, the 3X wasn’t available to purchase in the US until recently. Beauer hasn’t revealed who its North American distributor is yet, but those interested in buying a trailer of their own are encouraged to contact the company for details. The travel trailer should be available to order stateside now at a price of about $34,600.
