Five Delicious Drinks That Have all the Flavor but None of the Alcohol

Spring is here and, along with it, outdoor weather and good times. For many, the first big outdoor celebration of the year is Cinco de Mayo. Often misattributed as Mexican Independence Day (it’s not), Cinco de Mayo is a celebration of Mexican heritage and history all over the world. In addition to music and dancing, we also love all the fantastic food and drink on this festive day.

When it comes to the drinks on Cinco de Mayo, the first thing that comes to mind has got to be a refreshing, ice-cold margarita. But perhaps you’re not looking for the tequila kick this year? Maybe you’re out driving your RV around or you’re wanting to share something fun with the kids.

Well, you’re in luck. There’s plenty of delicious fruity concoctions out there for you to celebrate the holiday in style, without the booze. Here’s a list of some fantastic mocktails to shake up this Cinco de Mayo.

Mock Margarita

For a good margarita, the most important part is a delicious and fresh fruit juice base. Whether it’s classic lime, strawberry, or even mango, a mock margarita really needs top-notch juice since it will stand out as the dominant ingredient. Traditional margaritas also commonly include triple sec, an orange-flavored liqueur. For a more authentic taste, toss a little orange juice in, and for extra fun, blend it all up with ice for the full frozen experience.

Mock Paloma

Like most classic Mexican cocktails, a hearty dose of citrus is the most prominent feature of a paloma. Here, grapefruit juice is the star in this effervescent mocktail. A squeeze of lemon compliments the drink, which is topped off with the sweetness of agave nectar. If you like a tangier, drier mocktail, hold back on the agave or give the lemon an extra squeeze.

Mock Tequila Sunrise

Often a brunch cocktail, many love the tequila sunrise for its striking visual presentation with orange juice floating gracefully above the deep red of grenadine, looking just like a sunrise in a glass. For the mock version, skip the tequila and add in some peach juice and lemon soda for a fuller flavor. Don’t forget, the key to a successful sunrise mocktail is to carefully layer your ingredients and make sure the grenadine goes in last.

Fiery Golden Mango Tonic

Maybe you’re looking for something entirely unique rather than an alcohol-free twist on an old favorite? Although it’s not a classic Mexican drink by any means, this mocktail boasts vibrant flavors and features a spicy kick that’s just perfect for Cinco de Mayo. The fiery mango tonic is a fascinating combination of unique ingredients like ginger, turmeric, cayenne, mango juice, and even chamomile tea. Bring this one to the party and you’ll surely have a crowd asking you all about it.

Cilantro Jalapeño Limeade

How about mixing in some herby freshness with all that delicious citrus? This cilantro jalapeño limeade offers the best of both worlds in this tasty and balanced mocktail. The tanginess of the limes complements the sweetness from agave nectar and the spicy kick from the jalapenos. Add in that unique cilantro twist and your tongue will be dancing in your mouth.

No matter how you celebrate Cinco de Mayo, it just isn’t the same without a tasty drink in hand. Choose one of these equally, if not more tasty alcohol-free mocktails to keep the party going all night long. So, raise a glass this Cinco de Mayo during your celebrations and salute Mexican heritage this May.
