Yakima Debuts EXO OpenRange Camp Kitchen
The Add-On Gives Vanlifers and Overlanders New Options for Meal Prep
Vanlifers and overlanders looking to expand their kitchen facilities will soon have a new option to do just that. Vehicle accessory manufacturer Yakima has introduced the EXO OpenRange Camp Kitchen, which promises to bring additional storage and functionality to any rig.
Yakima’s new portable kitchen comes in the form of a rugged roto-molded storage box. The container features a front-facing door that folds open to transform the OpenRange into a fully-functional workspace designed for meal prep. It offers 85 liters of internal storage space and comes with an internal organizational shelf and a built-in utensil drawer. A durable rubber door seal keeps dust, moisture, and hungry critters at bay.
Two versions of the OpenRange will be available, including the standard model and a Deluxe edition. Both versions share the same core features, but the OpenRange Deluxe comes with several accessories that further expand its functionality. Those add-ons include wooden side tables that extend the workspace, a lantern hook, bottle opener, and a backboard organizer. A two-burner camp stove, collapsible washbasin, and adjustable legs are also part of the Deluxe package. Each of those items is sold separately for the standard edition camp kitchen.
The OpenRange is designed to connect to a vehicle using Yakima’s versatile EXO hitch-mount system. EXO is a proprietary mount that allows owners to quickly and easily swap various Yakima accessories, including bike mounts, gear baskets, and storage boxes. When locked securely in place on the hitch, the camp kitchen becomes the perfect place to prepare a meal. And when you’re ready to leave the campsite, it easily detaches from the vehicle and folds up for storage and transport.
The new camp kitchen will begin shipping this spring, with the base model selling for $749.00 and the Deluxe edition priced at $1,199.00. Watch the Yakima website for more information.
