The Gear: The REDARC Tow-Pro Link is a Braking Breakthrough
The wireless brake controller lets you adjust settings from your phone on the fly

The first trailer brake controllers went on sale back in the 1950s and were an immediate game-changer for RVers. Previously, drivers relied solely on their tow vehicle’s brakes to control their speed and safely bring them to a stop. But by adding this then-new technology, they could remotely apply the brakes on their towable, too, adding more stability and control in the process. Since then, brake controllers have continued to evolve, becoming more sophisticated over time, culminating recently with the arrival of the REDARC Tow-Pro Link, which honestly feels like something from the future.

This unit is a smart electric brake controller that installs on most trailer setups in under 15 minutes, with a simple plug-and-play architecture utilizing a standard USCAR 7-pin vehicle trailer harness connector. Once installed, it wirelessly connects to a USB-A powered remote mounted in the cab of the tow vehicle. That remote allows drivers to adjust the gain settings on the brake controller as needed. LED lights indicate the current settings and braking force level at a glance, and it is even possible to correct trailer sway at the touch of a single button.
But the Tow-Pro Link’s capabilities don’t end there. The device also connects to an iPhone or Android device via Bluetooth, and comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. This allows users to monitor their brake controller’s performance on both their smartphone and vehicle infotainment system, while tweaking the settings as needed based on the current weather, terrain, road surface and other variables. It even allows for seamlessly switching between the proportional braking of “Everyday Mode” and the advanced settings of “Manual Off-Road Mode” for taking on steep descents, mud, snow and other challenging conditions.

Built to survive the elements, the Tow-Pro Link features an IP57 dust and waterproof rating, making it resistant to moisture, road debris and other hazards. The device can also receive over-the-air updates that will further enhance its performance and add new features over time. All of this makes it an excellent option for anyone looking to upgrade their existing brake controller or add one to a cargo trailer or towable RV.
