There was a lot to see and do at this amazing event.

This past weekend, thousands of outdoor enthusiasts, off-roaders, RVers, and fans of rugged vehicles descended on Flagstaff, AZ, to take part in the 2024 Overland Exp West. Over the past decade or so, this annual event has grown into the gathering place for anyone who loves vehicular adventures, drawing overlanders, RV manufacturers, and OEM parts builders from across the globe.

For the first time ever, the Wildsam staff was also in attendance, and while overwhelming at first, we soon found our bearings and enthusiastically joined in on the fun. We spent three days onsite at the expo, trying to see as much of it as possible. Now that we’ve returned home and had a chance to reflect on the experience, there were our favorite things that we saw there:

Ember RV E-Series Trailer

Ember RV joined us at the Wildsam booth and brought along one of its Overland Series trailers for good measure. The towable garnered plenty of attention from Overland Expo attendees thanks in part to its dual-axle design, off-road suspension, and spacious interior filled with clever elements. We already had tremendous respect for what the Ember team is building, but now we appreciate the results of their vision and labor even more. The trailer was comfortable, efficient, and impressively equipped, allowing it to stand out in a sea of campers that were on display.

Living Vehicle Luxury Trailer

We’ve been writing about the Living Vehicle trailers for a couple of years, but Overland Expo was our first chance to see it in person. It did not disappoint. The interior of this towable is plush, well-designed, and spacious. It is also outfitted with a slew of high-tech features that enable off-grid camping for days at a time. But it was the quality of materials and the thoughtful floorplan that truly impressed. Starting at about $300k, this RV is well out of our price range, but that doesn’t make it any less compelling.

Living Vehicle also announced a new model called the CyberTrailer at Overland Expo. Not much is known about this RV just yet, other than it’s designed to complement the Tesla CyberTruck in terms of its aesthetic. After touring the original, we can’t wait to see what it brings to the table.

Mammoth Overland Tallboy

The latest off-road trailer from Mammoth Overland made its debut at Overland Expo West. The Tallboy derives its name from its nine-foot height, allowing RVers up to 6′ 4″ tall to stand up inside. The rugged towable is made from aircraft-grade aluminum, sleeps four adults, and features a large shower, cassette toilet, and a 50-gallon freshwater tank. An external kitchen includes a sink, LP cooktop, and a 42-quart mini-fridge. But it’s the trailer’s 22″ ground clearance, off-road tires, and dual independent suspension that reinforce its overlanding cred.

Toyota Land Cruiser and 4Runner

Toyota had a significant presence at Overland Expo, where most attendees got their first glance at the auto manufacturer’s new Land Cruiser and 4Runner models. Both vehicles drew plenty of attention thanks to their outstanding off-road capabilities, bold styling, and legendary reliability. The updated Land Cruiser is arriving at dealers now, while fans of the 4Runner will have to be patient a bit longer. It goes on sale in the fall.

Ineos Grenadier

Speaking of impressive off-road vehicles, Overland Expo was also our first chance to see the Ineos Grenadier in person and actually take it for a test drive. This new brand looks to blend old-school design with modern technology, delivering a highly capable 4×4 that feels both fresh and familiar.

To show off the Grenadier’s capabilities, Ineos built a small off-road course onsite and allowed attendees to take the vehicle for a spin. The SUV easily handled steep inclines and descents, dusty trails, and undulating terrain, giving us an intriguing glimpse of its potential. The upstart brand has an uphill battle against more recognizable names in the off-road space, but we loved its versatility and throwback design. Hopefully, we’ll see more of these rigs on the road and trail in the future.

New Lectric E-Bike

Several e-bike brands were on hand at the expo, including Lectric, which showed off a new model that officially debuts on June 4. We can’t say too much about it before then, but we can tell you it is an impressively lightweight model that should appeal to RVers. Expect excellent range and a great price point. We’ll share more about this one when we can.

Rugged Mountain Denali 3S Truck Camper

Rugged Mountain is a boutique truck camper manufacturer based out of Idaho. At Overland Expo, the company showed off its Denali 3S model, which is built on a flatbed truck, giving it a surprising amount of space inside. We were blown away by the open interior, which includes an array of swanky amenities that you wouldn’t expect on a model like this one. Those include a king-size bed, gas fireplace, three slide-outs, an island kitchen, and a large bathroom. All on an off-road platform built to go just about anywhere. Pricing starts at $99,400.

Mission Overland The Summit Adventure Trailer

With its 76″ interior height, two- to four-person capacity, and 22″ ground clearance, the Mission Overland The Summit adventure trailer was another eye-catching towable. Best of all, with a GVWR of just 3,500 lbs., it can be towed by midsize trucks and SUVs, making off-road camping and travel more accessible. Outfitted with a Truma Combi Eco heater/hot water unit, this rig is well-equipped for cold-weather outings.

All the Pups

One of our favorite aspects of attending Overland Expo was seeing all of the adventurous pups that were in attendance. Everyone knows dogs love camping, and there were plenty on hand to help their owners pick out new vehicles, equipment, and gear for their next outing. Here’s to more dogs at the campsite, as life is definitely better when you can bring your fuzzy friends along with you.

That’s our rundown of a few of our favorite things from Overland Expo West 2024. After a busy weekend—and a little recovery time—we’re already looking forward to Overland Expo PNW in June. We hope to see you there!
