Komfort Resort 239FB

For the 2010 model year, Komfort set out looking for a change of pace — a line of travel trailers with more interior space than their lengths would suggest, and a bold exterior design with different colors than the traditional off-white.

The outcome is eight models in the new Resort line, ranging in length from 23 to 34 feet — all sporting aerodynamic front contours; bold, black accents around the doors, windows and lower body; and high-gloss fiberglass exteriors in medium tan. Inside, the emphasis is on maximum living area and openness.

The Model 239FB featured here appears to exemplify those goals, especially in the spacious floorplan. The trailer is among the smaller Resort models, which pays off in maneuverability, ease of parking and suitability for any pickup rated to tow about 7,000 pounds. Yet the trailer’s interior spaciousness and functionality make you believe you’re in a larger unit.

With the bathroom door open, the trailer is visually open from the front wall to the back, enhanced by a large slideout. Yet the bedroom and bathroom can be closed off when necessary.

The front bedroom is a comfortable arrangement, and with the addition of a few sizeable pillows, the queen bed becomes part of the lounging area. An optional 26-inch HDTV mounted on a swivel bracket faces the bed as well as the dinette. The downside of this open arrangement is the necessity of an accordion divider rather than a hard wall to separate the two areas, but we found the compromise a good choice for our family of four.

The dinette and galley occupy opposite sides in the center of the trailer, with the dinette comfortably seating four — or even five by means of a separate end section of the sofa that functions as a moveable chair. The sofa flips to make a bed, which is a bit narrow for a 6-foot-plus sleeper, but reasonable given the relatively compact size of this trailer.

Comfortable for lounging as well as dining, the dinette is fitted with a table that free-stands on two legs recessed into the floor. The table must be stored under the bed before the slideout is brought in, which may mean lap-dining for lunch, yet in all other respects the trailer is functional while the slideout is retracted. (In fact, it’s usually possible to park for lunch stops with enough space to run out the slide.)

The galley is a bit short on counter space — again due to the trailer’s modest size — but it’s functional, with ample overhead as well as under-counter storage. The galley is fully equipped with microwave, three-burner range, convection oven and a two-door refrigerator — an efficient layout.

More good functionality: the bathroom has decent floor space, an ample shower in a low tub and a large wardrobe (one of two). The designers have included storage or shelving wherever possible throughout the trailer.

The trailer is medium-priced at less than $26,000 suggested retail with standard-build options such as all-weather package, 16-foot awning and ducted AC. Options on the test trailer include the TV and mounting bracket ($1,193), aluminum wheels ($405), thermopane windows ($750) and a rear ladder ($150).

The standard-features list for the 239FB is extensive, including an attractive wood-plank-pattern linoleum floor covering, an FM/AM/DVD/MP3 player, relatively large water and holding tank capacities, an all-weather package that includes extra insulation and a heated water-tank compartment, plus a small item: a black-tank–flush system that no RV should be without.

The 239FB offers interior space that might be more commonly found in a larger trailer along with an aesthetically pleasing exterior shape and color scheme. It’s an attractive combination in a medium-sized trailer that’s easy to handle on the road and in campgrounds.
