Demand for off-road capable RVs has spiked in recent years, driven in part by growing interest in overlanding and off-grid camping. Some traditional manufacturers have embraced this trend, offering all-wheel-drive rigs aimed at easing the transition for traditional RVers. But an increasing number of new manufacturers are springing up across the country that are looking to address the needs of a more demanding crowd, most notably travelers who are looking to go further afield and stay in the wild for longer periods of time. That’s exactly the person Overlander Campers is looking to attract with its new line of rugged and capable rigs.

Based in Yakima, WA, the brand may be new, but its heritage runs deep. Overlander falls under the umbrella of Adventure Manufacturing, which is the company behind Scout Campers and Adventurer Campers. In other words, the new vehicles are designed and built by a team that has years of experience in the RV space and knows how to produce quality products purpose-built for their audience.

Overlander Campers launches with three distinct models, all built on the Ford E-Series chassis. That gives the rigs a common platform that is well known for its reliability and durability, and comes with a vast network of service centers located a short distance from anywhere in the country. The E-Series platform includes a 7.3L V8 engine that produces 320 HP and 450 lb-ft of torque, a six-speed automatic transmission, a proven factory suspension, and baked-in tech that includes stability and traction control, which are essential for smooth off-road adventures.

The smaller of the three Class C adventure rigs is called the Ridge. It measures 20’ 11” in length and comfortably sleeps 4-6 people. This camper is specifically designed to be small and maneuverable on the trail, offering an interior space that feels larger than it actually is, while maintaining the driving dynamics of camper van. It includes a large bed in the cab over space and a U-shaped dinette that converts to a second bed for guests. Pricing starts at $109,900.

For something a little larger, Overlander offers the Range, a 24’ 6” model that utilizes the extra space in some intriguing ways. In addition to the cabover bed, this rig includes a second bed in the rear. It also comes with a surprisingly well-appointed bathroom and a booth-style dinette. Like its smaller sibling, it has room for 4-6 adults. MSRP for the Range starts at $124,900.

The Fjord is Overlander Camper’s largest model, stretching 26’ 2” in length and offering room for six. It also comes with two beds and a booth-style dinette, as well as additional onboard storage. It is designed for longer journeys and has a galley kitchen that includes a three-burner stove, microwave, and 12V refrigerator/freezer combo. Pricing for this unit starts at $134,900.

No matter which Overlander model you go with, you’ll be getting a rig that is rated for four-season camping with well-insulated walls, a 20k BTU heater, and a 13.5k BTU A/C unit. All models come with 400W of solar with the option to add an additional 200W at the factory. The three models are available in a two-wheel-drive LT trim or an upgraded 4×4 XT package that includes a factory lift for more ground clearance, a special appearance package, and other off-road-focused features.

With the launch of these three vehicles, Overlander has thrown down the gauntlet for the rest of the industry. Not only do the Ridge, Range, and Fjord offer good performance and capabilities, they include well-designed interiors meant to maximize space and comfort in the field, all at a pretty compelling price. As bespoke adventure vehicles go, these definitely look attractive for newcomers and veterans to the off-road, off-grid camping space.
