InterMotive's Popular UIM Updated with Sensors to Include Rear Seat Belts

InterMotive Vehicle Controls adds to its versatile Upfitter Interface Module (UIM) product with the introduction of rear seat belt sensing. The rear seat safety belt feature includes a signal to detect if the buckles are fastened or not.
The UIM is a popular solution for new upfits or upgrading features to existing chassis. The product accesses the vehicle’s CAN data and, through passive acquisition, enables users to activate or control equipment in customized ways. According to the company, the new element will help deliver improved safety options for upfitters and agencies.
The UIM is programmable using multiple logic levels through InterMotive’s free graphical user interface. It provides eight outputs and two inputs. Pre-programmed modules are also available. InterMotive’s electronic control systems leverage a vehicle’s own data networks to enhance its function.
Available for Ford, GM, Stellantis and medium-duty chassis, the UIM system is easily installed with plug-and-play connections to OEM chassis. It is currently available on Ford Super Duty chassis.
