One of the best things about touring someone’s custom-built camper van is seeing just how creative they can be with the interior design. Such is the case with the video above, which features a build-out that includes so many unique features that it’s hard not to be impressed. The van—which belongs to full-timers Alissa, Cody, and their cat—comes with all of the amenities of home, including a freezer for ice cream.

Built on a Mercedes Sprinter van platform, the camper includes a small kitchen with a surprisingly deep sink, an induction stove, custom countertops, and plenty of storage. The nearby dinette has a foldout table and seating for two, with a second table available for when guests drop by. A Dometic refrigerator and a separate freezer are hidden under one of the seats, while a composting toilet can be found under the other.

The bedroom area is in the back of the van and features overhead storage cabinets, hidden cubbies, and a laundry chute. The couple deliberately chose a full-size bed rather than a queen to maximize their living space. They also left the access panels to the various onboard components, such as lights, heating, and electricity, exposed for easy access.

Speaking of electricity, the van has 500 watts of solar panels installed on the roof, which feed power to a bank of five lithium batteries. This enables Alissa and Cody to camp off the grid for days at a time without having to plug in to recharge. In fact, the van has a 30-amp shore power plug, but the couple has never needed it, thanks to the efficient use of renewable energy.

Other nice features include a hidden litter box for the traveling kitty, a spacious gear garage for the couple’s outdoor equipment, and overhead storage shelves behind the van’s cockpit. There is also a designated recharging station for laptops, tablets, smartphones, and other devices and a SimpliSafe onboard security system. Alissa and Cody have artwork adorning the walls, the headboard on their bed, and the van’s exterior, giving it a unique, distinctive look that feels like home.

If you’re building out your own camper van, chances are you’ll find some inspiration here. Alissa and Cody did all of the work themselves, including installing and painting the wooden ceiling, adding the custom cabinets and countertops, and wiring the interior for power. The results are a tiny home that they can take with them anywhere.
