The Oregon-Based Conversion Company Creates Amazing Custom Solutions That Support an Adventurous Lifestyle

Portland, Oregon-based Outside Van builds custom campers designed to help their owners pursue their passions. Founded in 2007, the company’s goal has always been to create vehicles that facilitate outdoor adventure. That has proved to be a winning philosophy, as the RV manufacturer now produces more than a hundred vans a year, which led to the acquisition by Fox Factory in 2021.

Nowhere is that single-minded approach to building bespoke camper vans more evident than in the video above. It features one of Outside Van’s most recent demo models, a Class B specifically designed to support kiteboarders in their endless search for the perfect combination of wind and water. This particular vehicle has been built from the ground up to support those efforts, providing a go-anywhere mobile basecamp with all the amenities of a home.

The van featured in the video is dubbed “Slim Chance” and was built on the all-new 2023 Mercedes 144 Sprinter platform. That gives the vehicle an array of impressive features, including all-wheel drive, excellent ground clearance, and rugged build quality for off-road travel. It also offers ample room for Outside Van to create a living space that includes a fold-down Murphy bed, a surprisingly versatile kitchenette, and a large outdoor shower. It also comes with Starlink satellite internet, a wireless audio system, a microwave, a refrigerator, and an induction cooktop. All of that equipment is powered by a 960 amp-hour house battery that charges via the van’s alternator or a 140-watt roof-mounted solar panel.

The Slim Chance, which derives its name from a kiteboarding trick, also features plenty of onboard storage. That allows the owner to store all their gear and stay organized while on the road. Those options include a wide, floor-mounted gear tray with ample space for holding large, flat items like a kiteboard.

Kiteboarding isn’t as common as some other outdoor sports, but it is easy to see how the van’s concepts can be applied to other activities. Outside, Van has created similar models for mountain bikers, trail runners, climbers, and other adventure athletes. Their camper van builds are some of the best in the business and a testament to what can be accomplished with some creativity, ingenuity, and precision craftsmanship.

Check out the video above to get the full tour of the Slim Chance. It is a fantastic RV that was purpose-built for adventure. Be warned, though; after watching the clip, you may be ready to take on a few new adventures of your own. Visit the Outside Van website to find out how the company can help you do just that.
