The Ride: Mammoth Overland’s TL Trailer is Large and in Charge
This rugged off-road towable could be the start of something big.

Mammoth Overland made headlines in the RV world in 2023 with its ELE model—a towable literally designed for apocalyptic conditions. (“ELE” stands for “extinction-level event.”) Now, the company is back with a new trailer, the TL, fusing trademark ruggedness with quality-of-life features.
The TL debuted at Overland Expo West in May, and its imposing, boxy silhouette garnered plenty of attention. Standing nearly 9 feet tall, the trailer is the first full-height model in the Mammoth catalog. That—along with its 6’ 5” internal ceilings—has earned it the nickname “Tall Boy.”

“The design is based directly on customer feedback,” Scott Taylor, Mammoth’s president, says. “ELE owners love their trailers, but they’ve told us they wished it was a bit taller, and had a larger bed.”
Taylor says the TL’s design centered around adding a king-size bed—a direct request from his wife. Tired of sleeping in a rooftop tent mounted on the family Jeep, she wanted something large enough to not only accommodate two humans but also their large dog—a situation many of us can relate to.
One of the TL’s hallmark features is its indoor bathroom—a first among Mammoth’s range of models. Taylor says it took several iterations to nail it, including three redesigns after the prototype phase. The final version includes a portable cassette toilet, a shower and sink supplied with on-demand hot water. The TL also comes with a well-equipped outdoor kitchen and a passthrough pantry. Two bunks convert into a couch (or vice versa).

The Tall Boy goes into production later this fall, with the first ten designated as “Genesis Edition” models. This version comes fully loaded with features, and carries a $72,000 price tag. A standard model will follow in 2025, with final pricing yet to be determined. Taylor says the goal is to reduce costs, with customization options allowing future buyers to realize their overlanding visions.
It is then that the TL will truly stand tall.
