Lovers of the ocean will discover exhibits of undersea life at the Mississippi Aquarium. Twelve fresh and saltwater habitats house more than 200 species of aquatic animals, including bottlenose dolphins, North American river otters, sharks, and stingrays. Sign up for the Dolphin Encounter to get up and close to these intelligent marine mammals.

Gulfport Nightlife

There is a thriving blues and rhythm & blues culture in Gulfport, especially in the North Gulfport neighborhood. Both John Lee “Jaimoe” Johnson, the Allman Brothers Band’s renowned drummer, and Lamar Williams, the band’s former bassist, grew up in Gulfport and played in numerous bars along the coast. Gulfport has been home to guitarist Blind Roosevelt Graves, vocalist Albennie Jones, pianist Cozy Corley, and Blues Hall of Fame pianist Roosevelt Sykes. Visit the Murky Waters Blues N BBQ for great music and great flavors.

Ready for some culture? Explore Gulfport’s charming harbor and vibrant downtown, which includes a constantly changing public art scene in a former fishmonger’s alley.

Gulfport’s entertainment zone, which includes the bay and the shoreline from just east of 18th Avenue to 36th Avenue, extends north to the CSX railroad tracks in the downtown area. It is here that customers can leave a restaurant or bar with a drink they have purchased in a go-cup.
