The trailer heralded as the world’s most eco-friendly and sustainable caravan has the
Airstream name on it. The Ecostream, although still only a demonstration model, was
unveiled at this year’s International Caravan and Motorhome show at Birmingham’s NEC, and
every item inside this trailer is made from either reused or recycled material. After a
challenge posed by the Caravan Club, former Top Gear presenter and radio DJ Steve Berry
teamed up with motoring expert Tighe Grainger to build this trailer. The custom-built
EcoStream is an overhauled brand-new 22-foot, four-berth Airstream. The table top is made
from recycled yogurt containers, shampoo bottles, mobile phone covers and CDs, and you’ll
find materials such as hemp, straw and animal hair in the furnishings. Its water tank is
constructed from a Harley-Davidson motorbike’s fuel tank, and its wood-burning stove was
salvaged from a boat. It also sports solar panels, LED lighting, a composting toilet that
separates liquid from solid waste and eco-friendly bamboo flooring. Check out UK’s Sky News Gallery for photos.
