Weekend Warrior, long known as one of the dominant manufacturers of SURV towables, recently introduced this travel trailer. At first glance, the flashy graphics, alloy wheels and aggressive aluminum rock guard hinted at Weekend Warrior’s rugged lineage, and that’s a good thing seeing how this trailer should work well with properly equipped SUVs and small trucks.
But that’s not what really caught our eyes. What we saw in this new BH2200 trailer was a family-friendly floorplan — one with plenty of seating for relaxed entertaining. And, in a very uncommon move for Weekend Warrior, no garage.
Tapping the popular lightweight, entry-level marketplace, the new line of Carbon Lite travel trailers starts with the BH1800 18-foot model and range up to the BH2600 that offers a queen bed in the nose with plenty of sleeping in the rear. All models include a curbside bed in the rear with a bunk bed above it, and all feature dinettes that convert for additional sleeping.
Although my two daughters have already graduated from college, I had no problem imagining the family fun we could have had in a 22-footer like the Carbon Lite. My wife and I likely would have opted for the giant U-shaped dining area in the front of the trailer, as it would offer plenty of room for our 6-foot plus frames to stretch out once converted to a bed. And the girls would probably have to draw straws to see who would be in the top bunk.
Even though the Carbon Lite series is considered entry-level, standard features abound. This trailer has a 13,500-BTU air-conditioning unit and a 25,000-BTU furnace, both ducted
so the whole interior gets a balanced share of the climate control for comfortable days and nights. The galley included some other upgrades normally found on the options list, including a pull-out faucet and a 60/40 stainless-steel sink with covers to expand the food-preparation surface. And that gigantic U-shaped dinette would offer plenty of space to enjoy our family meal.
The family and I were also impressed with the slide-out pantry, a nice feature when dealing with kids in a travel trailer. Additional galley goodies include a three-burner stovetop, microwave and refrigerator.
Another nice touch was the number and size of windows in the BH2200 — many and large. This gives the trailer a spacious feeling and cuts down on the need for running any lights until nightfall.
It appears as though Weekend Warrior’s foray into the travel-trailer marketplace included some innovative thinking, and it also appears that it works.
