Toyota Launches Hybrid SUV

Originally Published in Trailer Life Magazine

Not all SUVs will be gas-guzzlers in the near future. Toyota recently unveiled a Highlander
gas-electric hybrid vehicle at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit that
should offer a major improvement in mileage. A Toyota spokesperson said this new hybrid
will join the popular Prius in early 2005 as the second vehicle in Toyota’s lineup to
feature the Hybrid Synergy Drive system. Toyota also unveiled an FTX concept truck that
will provide a hint to the direction in size and styling the automaker plans to take with
its next full-size pickup truck. The best news: Toyota said the FTX could be powered by a
V-8 hybrid gas-electric engine.
