Tahoe Pak Rat

Appealing to a specific niche market that includes all-terrain-vehicle (ATV) and motorcycle
enthusiasts who haul their toys in the beds of their pickup trucks to their favorite
destinations for the weekend, Thor California has introduced what company executives
believe is a first-of-a-kind toy-hauler. The Tahoe Pak Rat 16TB TT features basic, compact
living accommodations up front, an open deck out back where the toys are hauled and a
fold-down bed á la small trailer. This unique lightweight trailer has a manufacturer’s
suggested retail price (MSRP) of $8,995, and a fully equipped model carries a sticker that
falls below $12,000. The exterior dimensions measure 18 feet long x 7 feet 10 inches wide,
while the interior of the RV cabin space is 6 feet 9 inches x 7 feet 6 inches and has a
height of 6 feet 4 inches. The outside rear toy deck, measuring 7 feet 2 inches x 8 feet,
features a steel-grate surface with tie-downs to accommodate two full-size play toys plus
gear. A diamond-plate motif wraps 3 feet up the rear exterior of the cabin, creating a
visual continuity while protecting the exterior wall from potential bangs and bumps by the
on-board equipment. A solid/screened door provides ingress and egress between the forward
cabin and the rear cargo area. A standard-size main entrance is located forward, curbside.
Both doors include windows. The fold-up tailgate/rear ramp is used for on- and off-loading
equipment. Every Tahoe Pak Rat 16TB TT comes equipped with a galley and a private wet bath
with shower and marine-style toilet, plus there’s a standard outside shower. The galley
includes a single sink with a sliding window located above, a pantry and a 5-cubic-foot,
two-way refrigerator. Two frequently ordered options include a 5-foot 8-inch x 6-foot
4-inch fold-out bed with a canopy and a screened-in patio room that envelops the entire
rear cargo deck once the toys are off-loaded. The bed and screened-in patio room feature
screened panels that can be unzipped for ventilation or zipped to protect occupants from
the outside elements. Standard equipment includes fresh- water, gray-water and black-water
holding tanks sized at 33, 25 and 25 gallons, respectively. A 16,000-BTU furnace and the
refrigerator are supplied by dual 5-gallon A-frame-mounted LP-gas cylinders. Every unit is
prewired for an optional 13,500-BTU roof air conditioner and also includes house batteries,
a 32-amp power converter and an 8-foot 30-amp shore-power cable. With a gross vehicle
weight rating (gvwr) of 7,000 pounds and an unloaded vehicle weight of only 2,760 pounds,
the Tahoe Pak Rat 16TB TT is designed to haul 4,240 pounds of cargo, toys and gear. Thor
