If you’re lucky enough to own a late-model diesel pusher, you already
enjoy all the comforts of home — combined with the kind of fuel mileage
that would make a vintage SUV owner envious. If you hold the title to
an older gas-powered coach, however, you tend to burn through
hydrocarbons at an alarming rate, making the need for such
mileage-increasing components as headers almost a prerequisite.
Unfortunately, relatively thin-walled tubular exhaust pipes
don’t fare as well as cast-iron manifolds. Steel-It High-Temp paint,
from Stainless Steel Coatings, incorporates a
316-stainless-steel-leafing pigment said to restore headers and other
parts exposed to high temperatures to a like-new metal finish. According
to the manufacturer, the finish is capable of withstanding temperatures
up to 1,200 degress F, temperature cycling, salt air and water.
Noted as being chip- and corrosion-resistant, the paint can be
applied by brush, spray or roller. Available in pints, quarts and
gallons, the finish can be applied to a wide range of parts exposed to
the elements.
