Spies Gather Info on Upcoming Pickups

Automotive spy photographers recently spotted a test mule version believed to be a 2010
Chevrolet Silverado 2500. It has a larger air inlet in the front bumper that is speculated
to be for an Allison transmission with more gears for better fuel economy and towing
ability than the current model with six speeds. The enlarged inlet also may aid airflow for
a new Duramax turbodiesel, which must be revised to meet stricter air-pollution regulations
that go into effect in 2010. The engines will include a new EGR system and urea selective
catalytic reduction. Dodge will launch its next heavy-duty in 2010 with updated engines,
and Ford plans to introduce a revised 2011 Super Duty pickup with a new 6.7-liter Scorpion
V-8 engine and six-speed transmission.
