Silverado 1500 LS & Prowler 27'

Mention Silverado to a towing enthusiast, and there’s instant name recognition. RVers will
tell you with great pride how many times their Silverado’s odometer has spun six digits, or
will regale a boast of sheer performance. We had the opportunity to match one up with a
Fleetwood Prowler to find out what’s new and improved. All-wheel steering, known as
Quadrasteer, courtesy of a new rear-axle assembly and high-tech steering mechanism thereon,
is now available on the Silverado. Along with dramatic eye-catching new sheetmetal, the
Silverado offers a lot to talk about. The Silverado we tested is the midline LS,
extended-cab, 1/2-ton, four-wheel-drive (4WD) short box that’s powered by GM’s Vortec
5.3-liter aluminum-head V-8. The Quadrasteer feature is an innovation particularly well
suited for trailer pulling, offering impressive low-speed maneuverability and high-speed
stability. The Prowler travel trailer was an ideal partner for the Silverado. The first
thing you notice about the Prowler is its higher stance. The body sits a bit higher on the
straight axle to help with above-floor slideout clearance, creating some additional ground
clearance that’s welcome when negotiating steep driveways or off-pavement campsites The
Prowler was stickered at an average $16,472, while the loaded Silverado’s $38,973
manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) is at the upper end for 1?2-ton extended cabs.
Like the Silverado, the Prowler 250RKS is also a multiple-user rig, well-suited not only
for a couple on an extended trip, but also for a family weekend retreat. Pick up the
