Seniors May Get Less Discounts at U.S. Forest Service Campgrounds

Originally Published in Trailer Life Magazine

It seems that it doesn’t pay as much anymore to get older. With so many baby boomers taking
advantage of senior discounts, campground concessionaires are being forced to charge other
campers higher fees. Thus, the U.S. Forest Service is proposing changes to discounts
currently offered to senior citizens. The agency plans to allow campground concessionaires
to offer only a 10% discount to Senior, Access, Golden Age, and Golden Access passholders,
eliminating the 50% discount that has traditionally been available to senior citizens at
National Forest campgrounds. The policy would also require these passholders to pay a fee
at National Forest day-use sites. For more information, visit www.fs.fed.us.
