The name Viking stirs visions of sturdy Norsemen and their sturdy boats sailing frigid
waters in centuries past, and so the name was appropriate when Viking first opened its
doors in the 1960s as a boat company. But when Coachmen bought the operation in 1968, it
was deemed fitting to retain the name for the new sturdy trailers it would build, both
folding and travel models. The former moved its headquarters in 1974 to Centreville,
Michigan, and today builds a variety of family-oriented vehicles, including the Epic
folding trailer/camper line.

Beginning with an appealing $5,600 model and featuring nine distinctly different
floorplans, the Epic is touted as the “warmest folding trailer on the market.” This claim
is supported by 1 ¼-inch laminated and insulated bunk ends, roof-side Z-rails that channel
away rainwater, a seamless exterior surface and a DuraTuff roof. In addition, the Epic
models feature a Super Sliding Storage Trunk (SST), Coleman stove and stand, maple-wood
paneling and cabinet doors and wide-trac suspension. Of course, guests find comfortable
sleeping accommodations in the spacious fold-out side beds, where the sturdy material keeps
out creepy crawlies but allows nature to enter. Optional toilets and refrigerators are
available. For more information, go to www.vikingrv.com.
