for heavy-duty shortbed trucks and features a streetside wet bath and galley, a curbside
fixed dinette in a slideout room and a forward, cabover queen bed. “We saw the explosion of
shortbed trucks, primarily only 1/2-ton 1500-series or single cab models early on,” said
Burk Morgan, vice president of marketing for Western RV. “Now, with the 2500 and 3500
series trucks with crew cabs with shortbeds, it makes them a lot more viable for carrying a
family and it’s upped their weight-carrying capabilities. We developed this Saratoga truck
camper specifically for that style of truck, a 3500 series shortbed truck that can carry
the weight and go with the larger truck camper. “The Saratoga’s overall length is 9 feet 4
inches; that’s the largest truck camper available for a shortbed truck,” he continued. “We
make it with and without a slide room. The slide adds a lot of versatility and captures
more of the market and gives people what they want. Not everyone wants a slide room in a
camper for weight or cost considerations. “We incorporated all the features we’re known
for, such as aircraft-quality aluminum framing – and we’ve been using this kind of aluminum
framing in RVs since 1977 – solid-surface countertops, a lot of residential interior
features that are common throughout the fifth-wheel and travel trailers we build,” Morgan
continued. Vacuum-bonded roof and wall assemblies, a glossy fiberglass exterior skin,
polystyrene insulation and solar privacy glass throughout are additional standard features.
The camper incorporates a basement design with the holding tanks below floor level in an
enclosed and heated space. “With the basement and having the holding tanks down below the
subfloor, it allows for better weight distribution because you have the fluids more evenly
distributed front to back instead of being all hung off the back of the truck bed,” said
Morgan. “We also have storage down in the basement, and there’s a slideout storage tray in
the rear as well, which we have on all our basement-series floor plans.” WRV offers the
camper with a one-year overall warranty, a five-year structural warranty and a 12-year
warranty on the Thermal Polyolefin, or TPO, roof membrane. Alpenlite Limited campers are
available in sizes ranging from 8- to 11-foot lengths, from $15,302 to $22,591 base price.
The Saratoga 935 has a retail sticker price of $24,507, nicely equipped. Western
