Safe Driving Course to Be Introduced at GS VIP Safety Rally

Originally Published in Trailer Life Magazine

An RV Safe Driving Course is being introduced during the Good Sam VIP Safety Rally in Palm
Springs, California, January 28 and 29, 2002. A joint project of the Good Sam Club, Good
Sam VIP, General Motors and GMAC Insurance, the course includes a behind-the-wheel segment
with Class A motorhomes, fifth-wheels and travel trailers supplied by National RV Inc. The
Perris, California-based manufacturer’s brands include Tradewinds, Sea Breeze, Marlin,
Island, Dolphin and Sea View motorhomes, plus a wide range of fifth-wheel and travel
trailer models. The two-day rally features a variety of interactive exercises designed to
help drivers build RV and automobile driving skills. GM instructors will work with
participants to practice proper skid-recovery procedures, off-road recovery techniques,
braking and accident-avoidance procedures, while driving the latest GM vehicles. Among the
RV exercises are 90-degree right and left turns, parallel parking and backing up. Classroom
instruction will address weight distribution, fire, tire safety and more. An RV simulator
will take participants on a “trip” through more than 215 obstacles. Food and entertainment
will be included. For more about the January safety rally, call (800) 765-1912, ext. 166.
