RVs Help in Disaster Recovery

RVs can be invaluable in emergencies, from escaping quickly during a hurricane, forest fire
or tornado to setting up camp in your yard during a power outage. Those who own them are
usually the first to recover after a natural disaster. Now, due to Hurricane Katrina,
thousands of displaced storm victims will be looking for temporary housing and RVs are
filling the need. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has plans in place to
control RV sales after a natural disaster, for a more orderly and systematic approach than
it had after Hurricane Andrew. A spokesman for the Florida RV Trade Association has
projected that FEMA will need approximately 40,000 RVs to meet the needs caused by Katrina.
In addition, some places are offering victims a place to camp. Oak Grove City Park is among
the northern Louisiana towns offering free RV spaces to evacuees on a first-come,
first-served basis.
