RVers Commit to Cleanup Day Campaign

Originally Published in Trailer Life Magazine

On May 17-18, 2003, Good Sam Club members throughout the United States and Canada will take
part in Good Sam International Cleanup Day. This year’s campaign theme is “Getting Ready
for Summer,” and the Good Sam Club hopes to enlist the help of all members and the general
public to clean up public lands. “This has become so popular we decided to make it an
annual event,” said Sue Bray, executive director of the Good Sam Club. “If everyone in the
country would pick up one piece of trash on Cleanup Day, the amount of trash in North
America’s parks and roadsides would make the areas cleaner for families to enjoy throughout
the summer.” This year marks the eighth annual Cleanup Day. Throughout the last seven
years, hundreds of Good Sam Club chapters have cleaned state, provincial and national
parks, plus highways and local roads across the continent. Club members have collected
nearly 14,000 bags of trash in seven years through Cleanup Day activities. Last year, more
than 2,100 people participated in the national program in nearly 150 parks across the
continent. Their efforts have even been acknowledged by some local and state governments.
“Good Sam was founded in 1966 by RVers to help other RVers with problems on the road, and
it has always tried to live up to its name,” said Bray. “Cleaning up roadside trash helps
everyone.”
