According to the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association’s (RVIA) Campfire Canvass, a
biannual survey of RV owners, 93 percent of RV owners expect to travel more than or the
same amount this fall and winter as they did last year during this time. The survey was
conducted during October 2001.
Ninety-one percent believe recent events will not affect their travel plans. A large
majority of those surveyed cite the benefits of freedom, flexibility and convenience that
RVs offer. In addition, RV owners feel they have greater control over their travel
schedules. These RV travel advantages are now more important than ever, 77 percent of the
respondents say.
Among the top reasons to travel by RV during these uncertain times, as cited by RV owners,
are the following:
- 71 percent feel it’s an escape from the pressures and stress of daily life;
- 79 percent of those respondents who will be accompanied by children or
grandchildren believe RV travel strengthens family bonds; - 66 percent of those respondents traveling with children or grandchildren agree
owning an RV saves money on trips.Holiday travel will be popular with RV owners, as 41 percent had planned an RV trip
over the Thanksgiving holiday. Twenty-four percent are planning to hit the road during
