Many vehicle owners and independent mechanics are finding it more difficult to get all of
the diagnostic codes for late-model vehicles, which are essential for proper repairs.
Legislation now pending in Congress will force automakers to release complete diagnostic
code information. The bill, called the Motor Vehicle Owners’ Right to Repair Act, is
nearing committee evaluation.
