GM Recalling 636,000 SUVs, 1.8 Million Cars General Motors will recall
approximately 636,000 midsize SUVs because of water leaks into a wiper-control module. The
recall includes certain model-year 2002 and 2003 vehicles: Chevrolet TrailBlazer and
TrailBlazer EXT, GMC Envoy and Envoy XL, and Oldsmobile Bravada SUV models, as well as some
Isuzu Ascenders, which GM builds. About 580,000 are in the United States and 31,000 are in
Canada. Dealers will patch a vent hole in the module and check a circuit board and
electrical connector in the area. There have been two crashes related to a short circuit in
the wiper modules, but no injuries or fatalities were reported from those two crashes. GM
also is recalling about 1.8 million cars to fix an electrical defect that can spark fires
in the steering column, following 80 reports of problems. GM said that it had no reports of
injuries or fatalities. GM will notify owners, and dealers will fix the vehicles at no
charge. Chrysler, Dodge Minivans Recalled Chrysler reported that it will
recall approximately 3,200 of its early 2005 model-year Chrysler Town & Country, Dodge
Caravan and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans because the front right seat belt may not have
been assembled properly, posing an increased risk of injury in a crash. Chrysler has not
received any complaints of a problem. The affected minivans do not have the new “Stow and
Go” fold-flat seats in the second and third rows. Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers
will fix the vehicles at no charge. Volvo Recall Volvo is recalling about
3,200 model-year 2002 XC70 SUVs because the rear brakelights may not illuminate, or could
stay on all the time. Volvo will notify owners, and dealers will fix the vehicles at no
charge.
