Range Rover & Alpenlite Aspen

Originally Published in Trailer Life Magazine

As flagship of the renowned Land Rover dynasty, the highly sophisticated, superbly crafted
2003 Range Rover HSE might just be the ultimate in luxury SUV development. With its refined
good looks, a leading-edge powertrain and superlative road-handling capabilities, this
recently redesigned 4×4 SUV is also Range Rover’s latest incarnation of the third
generation in this noble line, and its builders have continued to upgrade and equip this
high-end vehicle with the latest in technology, convenience and comfort. Western
Recreational Vehicles has similarly experienced a long and successful tradition of building
quality products – namely fifth-wheel trailers and truck campers – under its Alpenlite
marque. New for this year, the family-owned company has added yet another product, a line
of Alpenlite Aspen Series conventional trailers, to its already formidable array of RV
products. Many upscale amenities are provided in Alpenlite’s Aspen, which put it above what
would be considered entry level in this class of trailer. Much of Western RV’s savvy in
building upscale fifth-wheels has been parlayed into the Alpenlite Aspen’s design cues and
architecture. The Alpenlite Aspen, with its semi-aerodynamic profile and sturdy
construction, is currently available in three 28-foot floorplans, all with a single
streetside slideout. Our Range Rover was decked out in a Giverny Green clearcoat paint job
with an Ivory/Aspen leather interior. During our road test, we enjoyed a plush-yet-firm
driving position with great forward and lateral views of the highway. Even though it was
quite blustery throughout our road test, with wind gusts above 25 mph at times, our Range
Rover and Alpenlite Aspen trailer combination stood the course as though designed as a
matched pair. The Range Rover is a sophisticated, luxury SUV that is as comfortable and
capable on the turnpike as it is slogging through rough off-road terrain. Coupled with a
full-featured, stylish towable, such as the Alpenlite Aspen, the travel and adventure
options for up to five passengers are almost limitless. Pick up the August 2003 issue of
