Q: I have a 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche 2WD with an automatic transmission.
What modifications do I need to tow it four wheels down, and where can I buy these items?
A: The automatic transmission on two-wheel-drive Avalanche models will
likely self-destruct if towed long distances due to a lack of internal lubrication, because
the mechanical front pump only circulates transmission fluid when the engine is running.
This is common to most rear-wheel drives with automatics. Remco (800-228-2481) offers two
solutions for this model – an electric lube pump and a driveshaft disconnect kit. In your
case, I’d choose the pump, as it doesn’t require driveshaft modifications, balancing, etc.
