SPAL has introduced a new anti-carjack system called ACJ-1. It is designed to protect
vehicles from theft, either when moving or parked. The electronic device uses a
programmable control unit that, when the vehicle is started, communicates with a module and
sends a code from the driver. The device permits the vehicle to move only when
communication between the two devices is present. If theft is detected, the control unit
triggers a siren, flashers blink and power to the engine is shut off. If the driver is
forced from the vehicle, after two minutes a pre-alarm signal goes off with intermittent
beeps from a buzzer, and then two minutes later an alarm goes off and the engine quits. The
engine cannot be restarted then without a special transmitter. For more information: Spal,
