Platinum 272XL

Originally Published in Trailer Life Magazine

When most RVers embark on their journey into the world of RVing, they start off with
something small, light and maneuverable. Then, as the family and confidence grow, it’s not
uncommon to make the move up to a bigger truck and trailer or even a motorhome. If this
description fits you, or the idea of a small, well-built luxury motorhome sounds appealing,
then the Platinum Class C motorhome by Coach House Inc. may be what you’re looking for.
According to L.B. Blanchard, national sales manager for Coach House, quality, innovative
construction is just one of the things that separates the Platinum from other Class C’s on
the market. “It’s built like an upside-down yacht, from one piece of molded fiberglass,” he
says. “Some Class C’s have as many as 14 different seams, which leaves potential for
squeaks, rattles and leaks. Our process yields a product that is stronger, easier to clean,
more aerodynamic and lighter weight, which means better road-holding capability.” Built on
a rugged Ford F-450 chassis with a 6.8-liter V-10 gas or an available 6.0-liter diesel, the
Platinum comes in four different floorplans, from 23 to 26 feet. The largest of these is
the 272XL shown here, which comes with HWH hydraulic living-room and bedroom slideouts.
Everything about the Platinum says “high end.” The 272XL comes standard with HWH hydraulic
automatic leveling jacks, adjustable Ride-Rite rear air suspension, R28 insulation,
dual-pane windows and a 4-kW Onan MicroQuiet AC generator. Inside, you’ll find details such
as solid-surface counter tops, a flat-screen television, a DVD surround-sound system and
day/night shades. The only options are satellite television, a bedroom television, a backup
camera, heated holding tanks, a coffee maker and a patio awning. The 272XL floorplan is
available in an FS or FD floorplan. If you opt for the FS, you’ll get a power sofa bed in
the streetside slideout; if you choose the FD, you’ll get a dinette that converts into a
bed. Located across from the slideout are a swiveling barrel chair, and the kitchen —
which includes a three-burner stove with an overhead microwave convection, sink with cover,
a 6 cubic-foot, three-way refrigerator and a slideout pantry. The streetside bath area
includes a 6-foot 2-inch-tall shower, a porcelain toilet and lav. Master-bedroom features
include a queen-size bed with a nightstand, a wardrobe with drawers and a television shelf.
