Pioneer Campfire Grill Review

Originally Published in MotorHome Magazine

Summer can be a great time for gathering around the campfire, however, fall is right around the corner and that’s when I really look forward to the smell and warmth of dancing flames. There’s something special about hanging out with friends and family around a good campfire, when the air starts to get crisp and the trees begin changing colors. Not to mention the increased peace, once the air gets too cold for mosquitos to test the boundaries of camper’s sanity levels.

Aside from the smell, warmth and general ambiance of a bonfire, it can also be fun to cook a big meal over a living, crackling flame. One of the easiest and best ways to do that is with a campfire-specific grill. There are many campfire grills out there to choose from with different features and components.

I recently tested the Pioneer Campfire Grill, manufactured by Campfire Grill LLC. The Pioneer grill boasts an 18-inch diameter rack, which is plenty big to feed a medium-sized group of people. It’s a two-piece staked design that allows for effortless assembly and takedown. The grill comes with a carrying case, which makes for easy portability and storage. It also includes a hot pad and glove for safe handling while still hot.

The Pioneer Campfire Grill didn’t seem quite as sturdy as some other rectangular grills, which feature a stake at each corner. But it was much easier to set up and take down than the four-post campfire grills. It weighs 10 pounds, which makes it perfect for the backyard or to bring to the campsite, however, we wouldn’t recommend it for those looking to walk a long way or hike into a campsite.

The Pioneer Campfire Grill comes in right around $40, which makes it one of the less expensive campfire grills on the market. That price, along with its basic simplicity, makes it a great choice for families looking to turn off the gas and cook over a sizzling flame.
