A National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) study reportedly found that
passengers in pickup trucks are less likely to fasten their seatbelts than those in
passenger cars. NHTSA reports that although 80 percent of passengers in cars used seatbelts
in 2003, only approximately 70 percent of pickup occupants did. NHTSA also reported that 70
percent of those killed in pickup-truck crashes were unbelted, while only 50 percent of
those killed in car accidents were unbelted.
