Patio With a View

The badge next to the entry door proudly hails 55 years of production by Glendale
Recreational Vehicles Inc., and it’s affixed to the company’s latest innovation: the
Titanium MPRV. Not only is the fifth-wheel available with a new fold-out screen porch at
the stern, but it also has an 8-foot multipurpose room. Combined, the two features create a
floorplan that is quite out of the ordinary. Glendale’s Titanium line is instantly
recognizable because of its stylish, double-stepped forward section with one step at the
kingpin and another above that slightly mimics the nose cone of a tractor-trailer rig. At
the other end of the Titanium is the optional fold-out screen porch, dubbed the Bug Room
and intended to provide the benefits of outside living with none of the drawbacks – namely
flying and crawling insects. Among other things, the combination of the Bug Room and the
multipurpose room helps segregate what amounts to four different areas – three primarily
for living – although since the remaining area is multipurpose, you could use the heated
and air-conditioned space for any number of activities. Of course, devoting part of the
interior to multipurpose use means that the primary “indoor” living area typical of a
fifth-wheel is reduced in comparison with a conventional fifth-wheel of the same length.
However, there is ample space for comfort and convenience with slideouts on both sides of
the living area, and full amenities with a well-equipped kitchen, four-place dining area
and a sofa. Consider the difference in living space akin to that between a trailer with a
single slide and one with two; given what’s inside, the trailer takes up little real estate
behind the truck. The multipurpose room adds a level of versatility to the Titanium that
makes it not quite an SURV in capability, but well-suited to those buyers who have special
needs. A unique screened porch, and that stylish front end, only make the trailer stand out
even more. Pick up the October 2004 issue of Trailer Life for full test impressions and
