Parking Brake Pump Problem

Originally Published in MotorHome Magazine

I have a 1998 Winnebago Chieftain W36L with a GM Vortec 7.4-l V-8 engine. I am having a problem with the auto parking brake system locking up. Also, the electro-hydraulic pump assembly is leaking and needs to be replaced. I asked a rebuilder shop to take a look at the problem but they couldn’t help me. The GM part number 15018962 is no longer available, according to my GM and Workhorse dealers. Is there a solution to this problem? I understand that I need to chock the wheels to park, but my other problem is that the parking brake has to work for an upcoming state inspection in Texas. Can another type of brake be added?

Workhorse part number W8000498 is the current correct number for the pump with motor and the list price is $663. This is a serviceable, available part through authorized Workhorse dealers. Lichtsinn Motors in Forest City, Iowa, which is centrally located and does a significant volume of phone orders, provided this information and asked that customers talk to Lonnie in parts at 800-343-6255.
