Open Range 337RLS

The fusion of spanned grays layered on the metallic high-gloss exterior represents a certain element of design distinctiveness for the Open Range, a new entry in the already competitive fifth-wheel trailer market. It seems obvious that the attention to detail and available features add up to a fresh approach for a mid-priced fifth-wheel. My initial impressions were sealed with a look inside, where I found an inviting array of handsomely mixed lighter wood tones.

Once aboard the Open Range 337RLS, my attention was focused on the open floorplan with abundant floor space provided by well-laid-out opposing living-room slideouts. Following the entire length of the living room is the proportionately sized larger streetside slide, housing more than half of the galley and a comfy, nicely decorated couch. Subtly located beside the dining set in the curbside slide is an easily viewable flat-screen TV, hidden behind etched-glass doors in a corner hutch/desk when not in use.

Adding to the residential feel of the living area are large, expansive windows complemented by touches of drapery hanging from home-style curtain rods. Tucked beneath the matching valance, day/night shades provide adjustable light and privacy.

Capping off the spacious and well-appointed living quarters is the aforementioned kitchen. Within the confines of the slideout is a Norcold 8-cubic-foot refrigerator, fronted with raised wood panels. In keeping with the residential theme, a solid King Stone countertop contains a deep one-piece molded sink. To make the kitchen more functional, matching black metalwork spice and wine racks are incorporated into the upper and lower cabinets.

As you step up the carpet-covered stairwell leading to the master bedroom, you’ll find a generously sized bathroom with a glass-encased neo-angle shower and Armstrong linoleum on the floor. Just as in the kitchen, the bathroom’s lavatory cabinet is also capped with a solid-surface countertop.

The bedroom includes a queen bed situated in the third, but smaller, streetside slideout. The bedroom offers ample storage for apparel in the spacious, mirrored wardrobe and chest of drawers.

Open Range appointed the exterior with a contoured aerodynamic front cap that allows for a tighter turning radius, awning and a fully enclosed underbelly. The optional wish list of accessories includes a built-in slide-out barbecue grill and such utilitarian devices as a built-in external entertainment center on the curbside that allows you to relocate the bedroom TV to a swing-arm mount for outdoor viewing. Usability was the name of the game when it came time to the design the Open Range’s outside arrangement, incorporating built-in king-pin stabilizers (which do not intrude on storage space) and slide-out LP-gas cylinders.

Despite being a newer company, Open Range has managed to include many target areas of interest as standard features — all wrapped up in four-season luxury, lightweight design and a reasonable cost.

Oh, by the way, Open Range says the 337RLS is towable with a half-ton pickup.
