NHTSA Requires Tire Labeling

Originally Published in Trailer Life Magazine

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) informed vehicle manufacturers that, by September 2003, they will be required to place a standardized label that provides tire-inflation information inside the driver’s side B-pillar.

Additionally, tire manufacturers will be required to place tire ID numbers on both sides of the tire. The date of manufacture also must be included on each tire. This is to aid in the identification of tires in the event of a recall.
