Future Nissan Plans Nissan may introduce heavier-duty versions of its new
Titan and Pathfinder Armada in the future. Look for a 3/4-ton or even possibly a one-ton
model, along with a turbodiesel engine option. Honda Pickup Rumored Both
Acura and Honda may introduce a light-duty pickup truck to the North American market in the
near future, perhaps as a 2005 model. It’s likely to share many chassis components with
Honda’s Pilot and MDX models. Ford to Update Transmissions Ford Motor
Company expects to introduce new transmission designs that would replace most of its
existing units in production by 2008. Continuously variable transmissions (CVT) are being
developed that can handle more power, for both front-wheel- and rear-wheel-drive models.
CVTs deliver better fuel mileage along with smooth acceleration. GM Trucks in NHTSA
Study
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is investigating
whether Chevy Silverado trucks from the 1999-2002 model years have a tailgate defect. NHTSA
said the agency has received 16 complaints that the cables from the tailgate to the body
break, leading to injuries. NHTSA can then order an official recall if it’s deemed
necessary. Recalls

  • Dodge: Certain 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 models are being recalled due to faulty
wheel rims. Some aluminum rims may suffer from excess porosity at the center hubs. This
can result in cracking and failure, which may cause a crash. Defective wheels will be
replaced for free. Owners may call Dodge at (800) 992-1997 for further
    information.
  • Ford: The Windstar minivan is being recalled for problems with the rear seats. Some
257,119 Windstars are affected because their rear seats may not stay latched to the
floor of the minivan, and may be unsecured in an accident. No injuries have been
reported. Ford says the recall will affect 2001-2003 models.
