New Mercedes M-Class Coming

Mercedes-Benz will unveil its new 2006 M-Class SUV at the 2005 North American International
Auto Show in Detroit, January 15-23. The new M-Class will be 5.9 inches longer, 2.8 inches
wider and 0.4 inches lower than the current-generation vehicle, with a 114-inch wheelbase
(3.7 inches longer).

The new M-Class also goes from a body-on-frame design to a unibody. A
seven-speed automatic transmission will be standard, along with full-time four-wheel drive.
Height-adjustable air suspension will be optional.

Two engines will be offered initially:
an all-new 3.5-liter V-6, with four valves per-cylinder rated 268 hp and 258 lb-ft of
torque; an optional 5.0-liter V-8 engine, with 302 hp and 339 lb-ft of torque.
