The first batch of 2004 Ford F-150s has rolled off the production line. America’s
best-selling truck for the past 26 years and its best-selling vehicle for the past 21
years, Ford’s F-150 is noticeably bigger and bolder in 2004.
With an available all-new
5.4-liter, 300-hp, 365-lb-ft of torque Triton V-8 engine, it is even more powerful. Its
wheelbase is more than 1.5 inches wider, the pickup box is two inches deeper, and its
Regular Cab and SuperCab configurations are roomier by six inches.
There’s rack-and-pinion
steering for improved response, a Tailgate Assist torsion bar to reduce the effort involved
in raising the tailgate, plus a hydroformed frame that’s nine times stiffer than previous
F-150s in twisting forces and 50 percent stiffer in bending forces.
The truck’s interior
has been designed to allow easier access. Rear access doors bring behind-seat stowage
within comfortable reach in the Regular Cab, and an available Overhead Storage System
allows for customizable storage or organization of audiovisual equipment and other truck
gear.
The new F-150 will arrive at dealerships across North America early this fall.
