More than 225 national parks throughout the country will host free events and guided
programs on Saturday, April 25, for the 3rd annual National Junior Ranger Day. Throughout
the year, children can earn badges and certificates for completing activities with the
Junior Ranger program and Junior Ranger Day will offer additional hands-on activities.
National Junior Ranger Day events are scheduled at national park sites in cities such as
San Francisco and New York, at wilderness sites and everywhere in between. Children and
their families can learn nautical skills at San Francisco Maritime National Historical
Park, go on a Civil War Hike in Cumberland Gap National Historical Park, make dinner bells
with a blacksmith in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, learn about the Ellis Island
Processing and Statue of Liberty symbols at Statue of Liberty National Monument, interact
with wolves at Petroglyph National Monument, and create Native American coup sticks at
Washita Battlefield National Historic Site. Participants will receive commemorative 2009
Junior Ranger Day pins and certificates. National Junior Ranger Day is part of National
Park Week, an annual Presidentially-proclaimed week dedicated to the celebration and
recognition of the country’s national parks. Free special events for National Park Week
