Newmar Corporation of Nappanee, Indiana, produces a sleek, attractive line of luxury
fifth-wheels offering a wide range of standard and optional features. The FW35LKBH, one of
12 models for 2004, is aimed at people who like to cook, with a large U-shape kitchen, and
an option of a walk-through bath and either a computer desk or a vanity in the bedroom. As
in the entire Mountain Aire line, four décor treatments – Wheat, Cameo Rose, Fern Green and
Delft Blue – help to accentuate the quality and livability of the FW35LKBH. These
collections include pleated fabric day-night window shades, lined drapes and valances,
plush carpeting in bedroom and living areas, woven soft-touch ceiling headliners and easily
cleaned vinyl flooring in bathrooms, kitchens and foyers. With prices starting in the high
$50,000-range, the FW35LKBH includes a generous array of appliances and fixtures as
standard equipment. Some of the more notable include Corian countertops with undermount
acrylic sinks, Flexsteel sofas and recliners, oak raised-panel cabinet doors, tinted
windows, flat-screen televisions and AM/FM stereos with cassette/CD players. Options on
these rigs are numerous, and can include a two-piece washer/dryer, up to a 12-cubic-foot
refrigerator, a dishwasher, a 30-inch convection microwave oven and even a fireplace. The
list also includes cabinet and furniture upgrades, a 7.0-kW AC generator, hydraulic
leveling jacks and ceramic or plank flooring in the kitchen and bath areas. Newmar products
are noted for their sturdy construction and excellent fit and finish. All Mountain Aire
fifth-wheels are built on 12-inch I-beam frame rails, with upper coachwork supported by
16-inch on-center, welded-aluminum framework. The main floor on these units consists of a
composite assembly insulated with fiberglass batting and topped with a 5/8-inch-thick
plywood deck. Laminated wall and roof sections incorporate exterior gelcoated fiberglass
sides, internal polystyrene foam insulation, plywood interior wallboard and roofs topped
with a Brite Tek thermoplastic polymer roof skin. Front and rear molded end caps accentuate
the clean lines of these fifth-wheels, along with a painted exterior bottom wrap. They can
also be treated to an optional “full-paint masterpiece finish.” Mountain Aires feature
heavy-duty suspensions and running gear to further enhance their maintainability and road
manners. Critical components include Easy Lube axles plus shock absorbers, and an optional
upgraded system featuring MOR/ryde rubber suspensions, electric/hydraulic disc brakes and
dual wheel assemblies for optimum tracking and weight management. The 35LKBH has an
abundance of storage and carrying capacity that can be maximized by a sizable forward
exterior pass-through storage compartment. With gross vehicle weight rating of 16,250
pounds and unladen vehicle weight of 14,472 pounds, the FW35LKBH’s cargo carrying
capacities should be more than 1,000 pounds with fresh and LP-gas tanks full. Newmar
