More Quadrasteer Vehicles Coming From GM

The 2002 GMC Sierra Denali pickup now offers the Quadrasteer four-wheel steering option.
Some other GMC and Chevrolet full-size extended-cab pickups will have Quadrasteer available
as an option later this year. Quadrasteer costs about $5,000, making it an expensive
add-on, but it can make trailering easier. Here’s basically what it does: Under 25 mph, the
rear wheels steer opposite the fronts to allow a very tight turning radius. Over 25 mph,
the rear wheels steer in the same direction as the fronts. This gives dramatic improvement
in handling at moderate and highway speeds. A switch on the dash lets drivers turn the
system off, returning the vehicle to conventional steering. There will also be a “Tow” mode
for greater stability when towing a trailer.
