Mercedes-Benz will be importing its boxy G-Class sport-utility vehicle into the United
States for the 2002 model year. The SUV has been sold in Europe for many years, but it will
now be officially imported to the States. Curb weight is more than 5,000 pounds. The G500
version to be imported has a 292-hp, 5.0-liter V-8 gas engine with four-wheel drive,
locking differentials, and a five-speed automatic. Base price is $73,165.
